without opening the annoying windows like in Samplitude (that freeze often, you cannot open more than one etc.) Samplitude "Revolver tracks" are less cool than having an instant view of all the takes at once.Īnother nice thing is the option of using Elastic Audio in the form of simply drawing envelope curves anywhere within the object, for example simple tuning of one syllable etc. The "take composer" in Samplitude is quite a hurdle race in comparison and I was always very reluctant to use it.

The sheer easiness of selecting the final one or combing the best portions is simply great. What is quite amazing is recording multiple takes within one track - be it loop punch recording or simply recording new takes over the present ones at any time (all then viewed as multiple lanes then automatically).

Not speaking of the possibility to manage plugins view in Reaper, creating custom plugin folders etc., just simple dragging the plugin setting from one object to another etc. Unbelievable - it scans every single Waves plugin for 4-5 seconds and you cannot stop this process when you accidentally start scanning all plugins, not just the news ones, quite frustrating. Quite shocking difference comes when rescanning plugins (I have complete Waves bundle).

in Reaper you are free etc.ĭetailed big view on a selected object by one click is nice too, as well as dragging by the whole edge when trimming (not just by one point down). In Samplitude - when for example during playback you want to select or cut another portion, playback jumps there (in Reaper you can do it independently which is great and it does not bother you), or if during playback you scroll to a view of another screen portion, in Samplitude it jumps back. dragging when cursor is in the lower part of the track and selecting when in higher half).Īpart from this, Reaper is much less rigid and more free flowing in basic editing tasks than Samplitude. It was very easy to create "universal mouse mode" as I am used from Samplitude (i.e. Even if you record a single track, in Samplitude it sounds more gentle, transparent, analogue and 3DĪpart from the stability, "smoothness of the ride" and compatibility between Windows and OSX, for me, the main Reaper strength is in its editing possibilities. PS: Of course, I must not forget the sound ! Samplitude naturally sound MUCH better (as everybody says). Īnyone having a similar experience ? (coming to Reaper from another major DAW) So slowly the idea to have some simple OSX recording DAW changed in the revolution in my studio and I am upgrading the DAW after so many years.

full Waves bundle) Reaper 20 sec., Samplitude 10 min (I am not kidding). Everything so complex with other thousands options and at the same time very simple and straightforward.Īnother thing - a big session: Samplitude struggling with 60% CPU (with occasional spikes to 200%) with its infamous "lost ASIO buffers" drops (that keep going on for so many years on any kind of computer), Reaper just comfortably 5%. So many things that I missed in Samplitude were so easy here, other things that were rather a hurdle race in Samplitude, were even easier and what was quite fascinating was the possibility to customise and personalise almost everything up to one's wish and idea. Then friend of mine who has been working in Reaper for more than 5 years, enthusiastically showed me so many options, possibilities, workflows etc. Tried Logic (horrible) and then remembered Reaper, tried it and it was ok. Recently I was looking for some OSX DAW for simple recording options. Bootcamp Windows on MBP is quite an uncomfortable solution.

Having Macbook Pro as an occasional mobile recording or editing studio, I was quite awaiting the final release of Samplitude Mac version (as being announced for 3 years). I was working in Samplitude since V7 and enjoyed it as a DAW great for recording and editing acoustic music, mastering etc.
